At The Carraway Center, our mission is to empower each child with the hope, understanding, and abilities they need to be successful in school and in life. Our summer education programs and workshops are designed to help students develop successful study habits and individual learning strategies that can be applied in the classroom and beyond.
We invite your child to attend one or more of our summer education programs and workshops. Our programs are based on cognitive learning strategies and neuroscience research and are available for students entering grades 5 - 12.
Our Exam Prep Workshop is specifically designed to help students sharpen their study skills, organizational strategies, and time management in preparation for final exams.
The ACT Intensive Workshop covers specific test-taking strategies in depth for the English, Math, Reading & Science portions of the test. This intense class will increase familiarity with both the test question types and provide a deep dive into key content on the ACT.
The Advancing Your Math Skills Workshops focus on retaining and advancing current math skills and preparing students for academic success in mathematics for the upcoming school year.
Students work individually with an instructor over the summer to improve their critical reading, fluency and comprehension abilities. Instructors use the student’s summer reading novels and other texts to provide guided instruction and to teach and model research-based reading strategies. This is a great opportunity for weak readers to increase their skills over the summer.
The Foundations for Grammar Workshop is designed to provide students with a comprehensive background on the parts of speech and other key grammar concepts through an interactive and multi-sensory approach.
The ISEE Prep Workshop provides general and specific test-taking strategies for the ISEE and provides familiarity with the layout and components of the test. A practice test is administered for 3 hours on the first day and a predicted score is provided. The following days focus on overview strategies for the Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Math and Essay sections of the test.
The Carraway Center offers these workshops for rising 5th - 12th grade students the 2-3 weeks before their school year begins. Students may choose to attend one or more workshops during the week. Available times and dates are included below.
The Study & Learning Techniques Workshop is designed to teach students how to organize materials, manage time wisely,
and efficiently study for tests, exams, and prepare for upcoming deadlines.
*Additional small group workshops can be put together by parents in Birmingham for alternate dates
The Critical Reading Workshop is for students who want to improve their reading comprehension, critical thinking skills while reading, and perform better on reading assignments and reading sections on standardized assessments.
The Academic Writing Workshop is for students who want to enhance their writing skills with better organization, editing, and persuasive writing techniques. These writing techniques will provide students with tools useful for essay writing, as well as future college and career writing.
The ACT Intensive Workshop will cover specific test-taking strategies that will increase familiarity with both the content and type of questions included on the ACT.
